The American Eskimo Dog has a stand off, double coat, consisting of  a dense undercoat  and a longer coat of ‘guard’ hair growing through it to form the outter coat.  It is straight  with no wave or curl. There is a pronounced ruff around the neck which is more noticable with male dogs than females.

The American Eskimo needs to be completely brushed out at least weekly to deter tangling and matting.  The coat can be deceiving . It is dense and may matt quickly especially when exposed to moisture.  Special care should be taken when brushing or combing the American Eskimo to go all the way to the skin,  with the proper brush.  Full service professional grooming is recommended every 6-8 weeks.

Consider using a Specialty Shampoo or conditioner to spruce up your American Eskimo’s coat & ask for Toothbrushing for dental hygiene.

The oatmeal bath, whitening shampoo and the soft and silky treatment are common ad-ons for this breed!
