The Samoyed is a double coated dog. The body should be covered with an undercoat of soft, short, thick close wool with the longer and harsh hair growing through it to form the outter coat, which stands straight from the body. Due to the nature of the samoyed's coat frequent grooming is necessary. The samoyed needs to be completely brushed out with undercoat removed at least twice weekly and professional grooming should be on a regular routine to avoid matting and discomfort of the dog.
