Daily grooming is very helpful with a full coated Maltese. The haircoat should be long, flat and silky, and without an undercoat. It is somewhat easy to become matted, especially when exposed to moisture. The Maltese should be completely brushed out at least twice weekly to deter excessive shedding, tangling and matting.

Some customers will choose a shorter, lower maintenance cut such as a puppy cut (pictured) however, keeping your maltese full coated is possible with sufficient home maintenance.

If home maintenance is done properly; full service grooming is recommended every 3 weeks, if not professional grooming is recommended at least every 1-2 weeks.
