The Scottish Terrier has a unique coat that can be quite a challenge to those unfamiliar with the breed. The Scottie actually has a double coat. There is a short undercoat with a texture somewhat like wool and a longer outer coat that is somewhat wiry and harsh.
Regular brushing and combing at least twice a week is absolutely necessary. The
wiry nature of the outer coat and the tightly curled undercoat will mat and tangle
very quickly if dead hair is not regularly removed by brushing. In addition, at

Special care should be taken when brushing the Scottish Terrier to go all the way to the skin, with the proper brush.
