The Scottish Terrier has a unique coat that can be quite a challenge to those unfamiliar with the breed. The Scottie actually has a double coat. There is a short undercoat with a texture somewhat like wool and a longer outer coat that is somewhat wiry and harsh.

Regular brushing and combing at least twice a week is absolutely necessary. The wiry nature of the outer coat and the tightly curled undercoat will mat and tangle very quickly if dead hair is not regularly removed by brushing. In addition, at least 3-4 times a year your Scottie will require a much more extensive grooming process if you wish to retain the natural look. This process is called stripping. If you do not plan to show your Scottie it is perfectly acceptable to have him or her groomed with clippers.

Some customers will choose a shorter, less maintenance cut (quoted) however a beautiful full coat is possible with sufficient grooming and home maintenance. Please contact us for a personalized stripping quote.

Special care should be taken when brushing the Scottish Terrier to go all the way to the skin, with the proper brush.

 If home maintenance is done properly; full service grooming is recommended every 4 weeks, if not professional grooming is recommended at least every 1-2 weeks.
