The coat is double. The outer coat consists of long, straight harsh hair, the undercoat
short, furry and so dense as to give the entire coat its "standoffish" quality. This
coat requires a large amount of brushing and home maintenance. Use care to brush
all the way to the skin. Due to the nature of the Sheltie's coat frequent grooming
is necessary. The sheltie needs to be completely brushed out with undercoat and tangles
removed at least twice weekly and professional grooming should be on a regular routine
to avoid matting and discomfort of the dog.
You may choose for a fun custom cut on this breed, a tight trim, a clean trim or a natural look among other options.
