The coat of the Shih Poo may be long, straight and profuse; curly or a combination depending on the way it was bred. The Shih Poo requires frequent grooming and brushing to prevent matting and tangling. Special care should be taken when brushing or combing your Shih Poo to go all the way to the skin, with the proper brush. Dental hygiene is very important to the Shih Poo to prevent early tooth loss. It is also important to regularly clean the ears of debris and hair to prevent infection.
Most customers choose a shorter, less maintenance cut such as a puppy cut, however it is possible to keep them full coated with frequent grooming.
If home maintenance is done properly; full service grooming is recommended every 3 weeks, if not professional grooming is recommended at least every 1-2 weeks.
