The coat of the ShihTzu is luxurious, double coated, dense, long and flowing. This coat requires a large amount of brushing and home maintenance. Use care to brush all the way to the skin. Due to the nature of the ShihTzu's coat frequent grooming is necessary. The ShihTzu needs to be completely brushed out with undercoat and tangles removed at least twice weekly and professional grooming should be on a regular routine to avoid matting and discomfort of the dog.

Most customers choose a less maintenance cut such as a  puppy cut, however it is possible to keep them full coated with frequent grooming.

Consider using a Specialty Shampoo or conditioner to spruce up your shihtzu’s coat & ask for Toothbrushing for dental hygiene.
The oatmeal bath and the soft and silky treatment or antistat conditioner are common ad-ons for this breed!
